Volunteers
We would like your help
The RDA Dunfermline Group is run entirely by volunteers who give a great deal of their time to help our riders and take care of our ponies. Each riding session needs several volunteers to assist the riders – and the more helpers we have, the more riders we can cater for !
Our volunteers also give their time to do maintenance work at the Centre, in addition to the many and varied fundraising activities undertaken throughout the year to meet our average monthly running costs of £1000.
No previous experience of working with horses is necessary as full training is given.
In addition to helping with the riders and ponies, we also need volunteers to:
- help with gardening and maintenance
- be involved in fundraising events
Please help us to help others – just a few hours can make such a difference to so many people.
If you are 16 or over and would like to become a helper – and have a few hours a week to spare – please contact:

A message from one of our volunteers ...
Hi !
I am a helper with the Dunfermline Group of the Riding for the Disabled Association
It is a group of friendly people of mixed ages (all volunteers) and we have a lot of fun.
We are based at our purpose–built centre at Shiresmill, by Blairhall (approximately 8 miles from Dunfermline), in an area of protected woodland with an adjacent car park.
We do a wide variety of jobs each day, such as laying out the arena for the rides, looking after our six horses, cleaning tack, making tea, helping with maintenance etc. If you love horses, you would certainly enjoy being involved with their care and participating in the special training required of them for our riders.
All the volunteers receive basic training and those who wish to further their skill may progress towards becoming RDA instructors in our Group. Some of our volunteers also help with fundraising events to raise money for our running costs.
If you are 16 or over and would like to join our happy group and meet our riders – adults and children – please contact the Centre on 0845 2414369 or Group Secretary, Rona Gerrard on 01383 738213
